Local pub the Fox Inn became a beacon of warmth during the snowy weather and served mulled wine and hot soup to residents trapped at home without any electricity.

"It is at times like this when we really feel we are an integral part of the local community," said Erika Godsland, who runs the A281 pub with husband Simon.

"There has been a great feeling within the village this week and we are really proud to have played a part in it.

"Everyone has been involved in keeping us open and we like to feel our roaring log fire was a big draw when we lost all the power."
